Abstract
Azerbaijani is one of the oldest languages in the Turkic family. Azerbaijani, which emerged from the branching of the mother Turkic language, which went through a long development path for centuries and was polished, is an independent language with a system of orthographic and orthoepic rules, phonetic, lexical and grammatical norms, individual and functional styles. Azerbaijani has a dialect system, which includes its dialects (northeastern, western, southern and mixed northwestern) and the dialects that form them. Each dialect has both its own lexicon, phonetic and grammatical features, and phonetic and grammatical features. After the Republic of Azerbaijan gained independence, research work was started to compare dialects with other related Turkic languages and their dialects. The article compares the Azerbaijani and Uzbek dialects at the phonetic and lexical levels and reveals common features. Many phonetic features observed in the Azerbaijani dialects (a ̴ o, o ̴ u, c ̴ j, b ̴ m, d ̴ t, thickening phenomenon, use of ŋ, etc.) are observed in the Uzbek literary language. It is known that the main part of the vocabulary of Turkic languages is formed by the ancient Turkic lexical layer. However, there are words that have lost their function in the literary language and have been preserved in dialects. Some of these words have common features with the lexicon of the Uzbek language: ağırramax, bayramnıx, ini, mayif, ceviz, chamır, davar, dagarcıx, irağ, ikhdiyar, etc. These units have been identified and presented on the basis of examples. Some of these words are the same in terms of both meaning and form, some have certain phonetic differences, some are the same in terms of phonetic structure, but different in terms of the meaning they express.
