Comparing Arthur’s Death and Epic of Battal Gazi in Terms of Structural Elements

Abstract
The type of romance is much older than the novel, and it is possible to find extraordinary events and forces, journeys to fantastic places, superhuman heroes and magical realms. At the root of the romance lies a very vivid imagination. Romance, which is a genre about heroes, idealizing moral purity and heroism, emerged as the last stage in the development of classical mythology. Loyalty to historical events is high in romance. In addition, the hero in a novel is the property of the imagination with the story told, and the romance is an exaggerating genre. Because the romance writer; he wants to open the doors of an imaginary world where dreams of glory, honor and heroism are realized. Epic is a type of literature that describes the important and sometimes extraordinary events of social events in a long and verse manner and historical events bear traces of the traditions, customs and lifestyles of the nations. It is possible to find traces of the life of a hero whose extraordinary qualities have been gained in the epic generally formed around the existence struggles of nations. While Arthur's Death and the Epic of Battal Gazi contain some differences in their main theme, they can be said to include some common qualities of the novel and the epic. The aim of this study is to reveal similar and separated aspects of romance and epic genre by comparing both texts.
