Abstract

A Dialect is the spoken language that may show differences within the same language in terms of sound, shape, syntax and meaning and also unique to certain residential areas and classes. Dialects don't consist of random rules. Each of them demonstrates the development and change tendencies of that language. In this regard, dialects are culture transmitters which take the task of acting as a bridge between the past and the present. The dialect of features have begun to disappear recently due to the increase at literacy rates as well as written and print production tools reaching out the back of the beyond. In respect to these Anatolian dialects must be compiled and language features must be examined urgently. The studies in relation to Izmir dialect are quite limited. It has been determined that no serious studies have been done in the towns and their villages of our area of interest after our investigation. With in the studies, the researches mainly focus on the history, geography and economy of the region. In our thesis, it was aimed to contribute to dialect researches and determine the dialectal features of Beydag, Kiraz, Odemis of Izmir province having significant features. In the beginning we planned to conduct a study only about Odemis district. However, as we being speakers of the dialect of this region, it gave us the opinion of dealing with all three towns' dialects interconnected to each other. In this study, by emphasizing on the main features of dialects which is used in Ödemiş, Kiraz and Beydağ, the place of these dailects among Turkish dialects has been informed. According to the usage of present continious tense suffix, distinctive features of four stated dialect areas are revealed. This study has been supported by dialectal area maps by giving examplary texts of texts for each examples. The numbers given along with the examples represent the line and text numbers.
