An Approach to +lAr Suffix in New Uighur Turkish

Abstract

Multiplicity category in Turkish language is provided by words, suffixes or word groups. +lAr suffix is not the only morpheme used to fulfill the meaning of multiplicity in New Uighur Turkish, reciprocal suffix can be used with multiplicity function too. +lAr suffix is not used just for multiplicity, it also related meanings community, group, affiliation, respect, strengthening, he and someone with him, he and his parents. The location of the suffix in a word can be change according to the meaning it expresses. The suffix is often used between the noun suffix and possessive suffix, as less it is used after possessive suffix. In New Uighur Turkish this suffix generally is in the form +lar, +ler but in some uses it changes to +lir. +lAr suffix does not fit the Turkish vowel harmony in some cases.
