Abstract

This study, entitled as "The Dialectological Atlas of the Turkic Dialects in the Soviet Union", was prepared by a commission of the USSR Academy of Sciences-Department of Linguistics. Having questionnaire traits, the study aims at investigating the Turkic dialects in the USSR from phonetic, morphological, lexical, semantical aspects, which constitute the quadrangular prism for this study. Together with indicating the differentiations with examples in respect to phonetics, morphology and semantics occurring in the Turkic dialects, the study also points out the responsibilities of the compiler, the features of the questions addressed at the subjects and the methodological aspects to be adopted during the compilation process
